A total of 1,000 pieces of modern school furniture have been secured for 28 educational institutions across the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality through an initiative led by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Alhaji Muhammad Bawah Braimah, in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rafiu Adam Seidu.
The intervention, covering basic and pre-tertiary institutions, is aimed at addressing furniture shortages and improving the learning environment for pupils and students across the municipality.
The furniture was secured following a formal request and sustained engagement with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for assistance to schools facing furniture deficits.
At the presentation ceremony, Hon. Bawah Braimah said the intervention formed part of his efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure within the constituency.
He stressed that investments in school buildings must be complemented by appropriate furniture and other learning resources to create conducive conditions for effective teaching and learning.
According to the MP, newly constructed educational facilities under the current administration are being furnished with modern furniture before they are officially handed over, reflecting what he described as a broader commitment to improving learning environments.
He urged heads of the beneficiary institutions to regard the quantities allocated to their schools as part of an ongoing intervention rather than a complete solution to their furniture needs.
“We are working tirelessly to secure more of these interventions for the constituency. The schools should therefore accept the numbers allocated to them as we continue to engage the relevant institutions for additional support.”
Hon. Bawah Braimah assured stakeholders that efforts would continue to secure additional furniture and other educational interventions for schools across Ejura-Sekyedumase.
He further described educational development as a key component of his parliamentary agenda, emphasising the importance of quality infrastructure and appropriate learning materials in developing human capital.
MCE praises intervention
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rafiu Adam Seidu, commended the MP for his efforts in attracting development interventions to the municipality.
Reflecting on the quality of the furniture, the MCE recalled that he first encountered furniture of a similar standard when he visited the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to write examinations.
He expressed satisfaction that furniture comparable to what is used in tertiary institutions was now being introduced into basic and pre-tertiary schools in Ejura-Sekyedumase.
Hon. Rafiu Adam Seidu said the intervention represented an improvement in the educational environment and highlighted the role of institutional engagement in securing resources for communities with infrastructure needs.
He attributed the intervention to what he described as the “workaholic” and consistent representation of the MP and urged constituents to support his parliamentary bid.
The MCE said sustained representation, in his view, provided an opportunity for the constituency to pursue additional development initiatives through relevant institutions.
He also called on heads and management of the beneficiary schools to take responsibility for protecting and maintaining the furniture.
He stressed that the furniture constituted a public investment intended to serve both current and future generations of students and should therefore be protected from avoidable damage, misuse and neglect.
School authorities were urged to put in place proper maintenance practices to ensure the furniture remains in good condition.
At the end of the presentation, the 1,000 pieces of furniture were officially handed over to the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution to the 28 beneficiary schools.
The intervention is expected to provide relief to schools facing furniture shortages and contribute to more comfortable and conducive environments for teaching and learning across the municipality.
