See it as a democratic move, a fulfilment of an agenda by a faction premeditated and scribbled like verses in a Holy Book to guide selfish possessive future ambitions, or a prophecy cum miracle too late to have come but manifesting aggressively in real time, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has changed completely. Is it in the right direction? I should borrow the party newly found answer to questions asked of late, and that is, 'the future is pregnant'. Will the 'pregnancy' ever deliver unity, a currently observed scarce necessity perceived desperately needed in the elephant family?
Honorable Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central and two-time NPP presidential primaries aspirant and his supporters have been directly and unequivocally been told by the outcome of what transpired at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, that his BASE will probably see light under the elephant only after 2036 or 2040. At which time politics will not even tickle Kennedy Agyapong anymore. Will the NPP suffer dissolution and become non-existent, and will the party become one to only read about in history books?
I went surfing for the answers to the questions and a comment by an unenthused party stalwart appeared to have partially answered the question with what he believed was the reason NPP gathered at Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Asked on the airwaves prior to October 3, 2026, whether he will be at the stadium on that day, he responded with a description of the event as an "auction" and not election.
The political fate of Kennedy Agyapong in the future suddenly became an interest worth giving a thought. NPP-loving members can reflect on the same. That statement was profound and begs for these questions.
Were the 'auction' results predetermined at a meeting allegedly held in Belgium sometime back?
Was the decision to elect the flagbearer before the national executives hatched at that meeting in Belgium by a select few, sugar-coated as a sweet medicine to revive the party, and pushed down the throats of party faithfuls to swallow at all costs? Is it that the NPP is not worried about its potential disintegration?
Are some party executives satisfied with titles and not the political power parties are known to yearn for, or they securing such positions becomes a shield against accountability spears they know will soon be thrown at them by the no-nonsense silver-bearded man at the 'ECOnomic' street sooner or later?
Was there a growing fear that if Bawumia remained uninsulated with additional Party power to repel any investigation against him or invitation by the silver-bearded man to assist with investigations bordering over his stewardship and some alleged contracts/agreement documentation his signature beautified?
Did Paul Afoko make his intention to contest the NPP national chairmanship position known too early, and did that heighten uncertainties among the Belgium meeting attendants group in the party to lead to a quick wakeup call to use any means possible to cripple a possible Paul Afoko chairmanship once again for fear of recalibrating the NPP back to its glorious days where no individuals or select few were seen as owners and operators of the NPP?
Was Kenedy Agyapong's BASE becoming a force too strong to topple by the day, such that the party may see wisdom in replacing Bawumia with Kennedy Agyapong at the eleventh hour, hence the need to fortify and weaponize Bawumia with additional power to fend off those threats till 2036 or 2040?
Whatever playbook that was used, whether manufactured in a distinguished historic town in the eastern corridors of Ghana, or at a Belgium meeting with input from kinsmen from the United States, and the United Kingdom, the efficacy of that playbook got a favorable grounds on the prepared minds of many to yield the expected fruits happily to be harvested on the fertile grounds of Baba Yara stadium on the soil of another distinguished town/city where the umbilical cord of the New Patriotic Party, NPP was buried.
It is worth noting that If the NPP's major external opponent saw the need to wisely devise a means to shutter the dictates of a similar predetermined future of a whole nation scribbled in a paternally named holy book and denied those few scribes power to give a soon-to-be seventy year old country Ghana a free nasal space to breathe again, it is not a crime if Kenedy Agyapong and his Base take a leaf from that to design their political future.
So, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, knowing how he is being treated in the current NPP, has an option to cross that political street with Alan Keremanteng's UP-plus on one side, and NPP Bawumia on the other side. By the safe street crossing courtesy, he should start by looking at Alan's side who he knows suffered similar predicament, then look at the NPP and Bawumia side of the street, and back to Alan's side again before crossing the street of his political career. He may not regret it, for 2036 or 2040 is a long wait on that street if he is scared to cross it.
I rest my PEN.
