Ghana has begun talks with Luxembourg on a possible visa-waiver arrangement that could ease travel for Ghanaians to Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa discussed the proposal with his Luxembourg counterpart, Xavier Bettel, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The two sides agreed only to open discussions. No agreement has been reached with Luxembourg or the wider Benelux bloc, and ordinary Ghanaian passport holders still need visas to visit these countries.
According to Ghana's Foreign Ministry, visa-waiver agreements with the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda are now in force. They cover ordinary, service and diplomatic passport holders, and the Zambia agreement allows stays of up to 30 days without a visa.
The ministers also discussed cooperation in digital technology and agro-processing, as well as investment to support local industries and create jobs.
