Police have arrested three persons in connection with the alleged abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.
The suspects, Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were arrested on September 29, 2026, at separate locations in Sang in the Mion District.
A Police statement issued on Thursday said preliminary investigations established that Mawudu was abducted on September 25, 2026, after four armed men attacked him and his brother at their residence and later demanded GH¢100,000 from his family for his release.
He subsequently escaped from the captors and was assisted to safety by some farmers in Sambu before being taken to a clinic for medical attention. Police later engaged him at the facility.
The statement said Mawudu told Police that he had been held under guard by armed men at an undisclosed location before escaping.
He subsequently identified all three suspects from their photographs.
”Further investigations indicate that the suspects are connected to other robbery incidents in the area,” the statement said.
The three suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
