Agriculture Obuasi MCE commends AGA for Agrifair initiative
FRI, 02 OCT 2026

The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has commended AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) for introducing the AGA Agrifair to promote agriculture and celebrate farmers in the Obuasi area.

The maiden Agrifair, which is scheduled to take place on October 16, 2026, will coincide with World Food Day and provide a platform for farmers and agro-processors to showcase their products.

The MCE made the commendation when the organising team of the Agrifair paid her a courtesy call ahead of the October event.

Madam Appiah Kannin welcomed the initiative, saying it would highlight the contribution of agriculture to the local economy and showcase Obuasi's agricultural potential beyond its mining activities.

She commended AGA for its continued support for farmers, citing its assistance towards Farmers' Day celebrations, the recently launched piggery project at Sanso and the company's farmer support scheme.

The MCE pledged the Assembly's support for the Agrifair and expressed the hope that it would become a sustainable platform for promoting agriculture and agro-processing.

Speaking on behalf of AGA, the Economic Development Superintendent, Mr Daniel Arthur Bentum, said the upcoming Agrifair was intended to complement, rather than replace, the company's support for the National Farmers' Day celebration.

He said about 40 vendors were expected to participate and urged the public to attend and patronise the displayed agricultural products.

The AGA Economic Development Officer, Madam Annette Akua Akonnor, said the October 16 event would take place at the forecourt of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly and involve farmers and agro-processors from the Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East Municipal areas.

She said the event was being organised in collaboration with the Agriculture Departments of both Assemblies.

Activities planned for the day include a cooking competition between the two municipalities and musical performances.

The Agrifair will be held under the theme: “Innovating Today, Nourishing Tomorrow: Building Sustainable Agriculture for Food Security and Economic Growth in Obuasi.”
