The Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, has declared his intention to contest the party’s Regional Secretary position when nominations open.
Mr Salifu announced his decision following what he described as extensive consultations with party stakeholders and deep reflection on his years of service within the NDC.
In a statement accompanying his declaration, Mr Salifu highlighted more than two decades of involvement in the party, tracing his political journey to 2006 when he served as a Branch Executive at Tindonsoe.
He subsequently served as Deputy Constituency Youth Organiser and Constituency Secretary for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency before becoming the Upper East Regional Communication Officer.
According to Mr Salifu, his progression through the branch, constituency and regional structures has given him a deeper understanding of the NDC’s organisational structures, grassroots politics and the demands of effective party administration.
“Leadership is not about the position you hold. It’s about showing up, serving with integrity, knowing how the system works, and coming through when it matters most,” he stated in his declaration.
Mr Salifu said he was offering his experience, energy and commitment to serve as Regional Secretary, should he receive the mandate from delegates.
He appealed to government appointees, former appointees, Members of Parliament, party executives at all levels, party elders and grassroots members across the region for their support.
He said the task ahead requires “unity, experience, organisation and renewed energy,” adding that his objective would be to help consolidate the party’s gains, strengthen its structures and move the Upper East NDC forward.
The aspiring Regional Secretary has also outlined some specific priorities for the position. In a subsequent engagement, he said establishing and properly equipping constituency party offices across the region would be among his priorities, arguing that some constituencies lack adequate office infrastructure for meetings, administration and mobilisation.
He has further said the Regional Secretary should work beyond routine administrative duties by collaborating with the Regional Chairman, Communication Bureau and other party structures to strengthen the organisation.
“I would not be the kind of Secretary that will say that my work is at the office alone but someone that will push for the better growth of the party and regional as a whole,” Mr Salifu said.
His declaration adds to the emerging contest for the NDC Upper East Regional Secretary position, with other aspirants also expressing interest in the position ahead of the party’s internal elections.
Mr Salifu has called for collective effort among party executives, elected representatives, elders and grassroots members to strengthen the NDC’s structures across the Upper East Region.
