The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed a power outage affecting several communities in Accra to a raging fire at the North Industrial Area.
The fire, which is reportedly close to ECG’s Substation ‘D’ at Avenor, has affected power supply to parts of the Accra West Region.
Affected areas include North Industrial Area, North Kaneshie, Tesano, Abeka Junction, Peace FM, Santana Market, Alajo Junction and surrounding communities.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 1, ECG said its engineers were working to rectify the fault and restore power to the affected areas.
“ECG wishes to assure affected customers that our Engineers are working to rectify the fault and restore supply," the statement read in part.
“ECG regrets the inconvenience caused to the affected customers,' it added.
The development comes as emergency responders continue efforts to contain the fire at the North Industrial Area, with reports indicating challenges accessing parts of the affected area.
ECG has not indicated how long the outage is expected to last but said supply would be restored once the fault is rectified.
