Lawyer Godlove Adjei Tenkorang has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reject Captain Smart if he appears before the party’s vetting committee to contest its Gomoa West parliamentary primary.
Tenkorang criticised the broadcaster, whose real name is Blessed Godsbrain Smart, over past comments in which he reportedly described people who would vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 elections as fools.
Speaking on Angel FM, the lawyer questioned why Captain Smart was never sanctioned or even questioned over such comments made on national television.
“He was on national television saying anyone who would vote for the NPP was a fool on national TV. Nobody sanctioned him, nobody even questioned him,” Tenkorang said.
He argued that failing to challenge such conduct could send the wrong message to young journalists and broadcasters.
“If a young journalist is watching and sees somebody insulting people on television without any consequences, what do you think that person will learn? He will think there is nothing wrong with insulting people on television and will eventually do the same,” he said.
Tenkorang therefore urged NDC leaders to reject Captain Smart if he seeks the party’s parliamentary ticket.
“If Captain Smart ever comes before the vetting committee to file his nomination, I expect the NDC to disqualify him,” he said.
Captain Smart has publicly declared his intention to contest the NDC parliamentary primary in Gomoa West ahead of the 2028 elections.
However, disagreements within the constituency over his political status have emerged. The Gomoa West NDC constituency executives said in June that their records did not recognise him as a registered member of the party, while Captain Smart has maintained that he is a registered NDC member in good standing.
