France's Ambassador to Ghana, Diarra Dimé-Labille, has met Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George to discuss strengthening the two countries' cooperation in telecommunications and digital technology.
The talks centred on expanding access to affordable, reliable connectivity. The Minister stressed the need for solutions that reflect the economic realities of Ghanaians while improving access to data and broadcasting services.
Investment was also on the table. The two sides explored opportunities for French foreign direct investment in Ghana's digital infrastructure. Mr George reaffirmed the government's commitment to a competitive and transparent environment that attracts investors while improving digital service delivery.
The Minister and the Ambassador also discussed how to tackle digital disinformation, and exchanged views on potential collaboration ahead of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) scheduled for November.
The meeting builds on existing French involvement in Ghana's digital space. Earlier this year, a three-year, €12 million investment began at KNUST, aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with AI skills and entrepreneurial know-how.
Analysts see the latest engagement as part of a broader effort to move Ghana-France cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic and commercial ties into digital infrastructure, technology investment and governance of the digital space.
For Ghana, deeper cooperation with France could bring capital, technology and technical expertise as the government works to close connectivity gaps and build a more competitive digital economy. The Ministry says both countries remain committed to a more inclusive, resilient and future-ready digital ecosystem.
