Togbe Sesinu VI pledges transformational leadership at his coronation

Togbe Sesinu VI, known in private life as Samuel Boafo Amewuho, a Circuit Court Judge has been coronated as the new paramount chief of Hoe and the President of Hoe Traditional Council in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.

Delivering his inaugural address after his coronation, Togbe Sesinu VI paid glowing tribute to his predecessors, saying they held the fort and held the community together. He noted that their leadership is the reason the people of Hoe are where they are today.

The new chief promised to provide visionary leadership that will make Hoe attractive to all its citizens. "I promise I will lead you to wherever we all wish to be. I will lead you such that even when we are away, we will all wish to come back home to spend our holidays and our free time," he stated.

Togbe Sesinu VI acknowledged that the community faces both material and spiritual challenges, assuring that under his reign, all stakeholders will work together to review traditional norms and practices.

He explained that outdated customs that need to be abolished will be abolished, while those that need to be continued, amended and practiced will be preserved for the development of the area.

Touching on accommodation challenges facing essential workers, Togbe Sesinu VI lamented that residents in Hoe build houses only for themselves and their families with no intention of renting them out, making it difficult for teachers, nurses and other posted workers to get decent accommodation.

As a solution, he announced his first development project will be the provision of accommodation for nurses at the community clinic and teachers in the town. He pledged to lead the project to fruition but appealed for the support of all citizens to complete it.

The chief also appealed to the central government to support the initiative, despite promises already made by the Member of Parliament and the District Chief Executive. He expressed optimism that with government support, the project would be completed within a year.

Beyond accommodation, Togbe Sesinu VI identified water as another major challenge confronting the community. He disclosed that although Hoe has a water system, it has outlived its usefulness and urgently needs rehabilitation and expansion, a cost the community alone cannot bear.

He therefore renewed his appeal to the central government to come to the aid of Hoe to rehabilitate and expand the water system to serve the growing population.

In a direct message to the youth, Togbe Sesinu VI urged them to take their education and apprenticeship seriously, using himself as an example. He advised students to make the most of their time in school and urged apprentices to respect their masters, learn their trades well, and use their skills to support themselves, their families, the community, and Ghana.

He, however, indicated that investors interested in agriculture should visit Hoe, describing the land as fertile for almost every kind of crop. He assured prospective investors of his personal assistance in acquiring land for farming, which he said would also create employment for the youth.
