Ibrahim Mahama took me abroad for surgery after Lordina’s intervention – Dzokoto

Veteran broadcaster and actor Kwame Dzokoto has disclosed that businessman Ibrahim Mahama took him abroad for surgery after First Lady Lordina Mahama intervened in his health crisis.

According to the actor, he was battling blood pressure-related complications and other heart-related health challenges.

Dzokoto said the First Lady learning of his health condition contacted Ibrahim Mahama for support to aid his medical treatment.

He explained that the intervention eventually led to Ibrahim Mahama taking him abroad, where he underwent surgery.

“I was battling with BP related to the heart and all sorts of things, but by his grace, the First Lady got to know of it, and then she pressured Ibrahim Mahama. He took me outside for the surgery and all. In fact, I am healthy and doing well,” he said.

Speaking to media personality Blakk Rasta, Dzokoto expressed gratitude to the Mahama family for the assistance he received during the difficult period.

He said the family's philanthropic activities should be recognised separately from their political involvement.

“I’m proud of the Mahama family. Their political side is there but then when it comes to serving humanity, if we have about eight people who decide to take charge to help people in their philanthropic way, I think the world will be a lovely place to live,” Dzokoto stated.

The veteran broadcaster also addressed concerns surrounding a viral photograph in which he appeared visibly bloated.

Dzokoto explained that the condition was temporary and was not caused by a serious underlying illness, as some people had feared.

He said he had stopped taking sugar and switched to honey but later discovered that the honey he was consuming had been mixed with caramel sugar.

According to him, the product caused his body to swell temporarily, but the condition subsided after he stopped taking it.

“That picture was exaggerated, and that was it. But naturally I’m fine,” he said.

Dzokoto also disclosed that he had contributed to the formulation of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Tourism, Arts and Culture manifesto.

Despite his contribution, he said he has not received any formal appointment from the NDC government.

He further revealed that he had expressed interest in becoming the District Chief Executive (DCE) for his area but was eventually passed over without an explanation.
