Bongo NDC Organizer Ataba Philemond enters race for Constituency Chairman

Ataba Philemond Atiah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Organizer for Bongo, has declared his intention to contest for the position of Constituency Chairman of the party.

Mr Atiah, who made the declaration in a statement, said his decision was driven by years of grassroots mobilisation, party organisation and service to the people of Bongo.

He traced his political journey to 2012 when he served as the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) Organizer at Gbewaa College of Education.

According to him, he subsequently served as a Branch Youth Organizer from 2014 to 2018 before becoming Constituency Deputy Organizer from 2018 to 2022. Since 2022, he has served as the NDC Constituency Organizer for Bongo.

Mr Atiah also highlighted his experience in local governance, stating that he has served as an Assemblyman since 2015.

He said the various positions he has held were not merely titles but reflected years of working at the grassroots level to mobilise party supporters, strengthen structures and address challenges within communities.

"For many years, my politics has not been about occupying the front row, taking photographs or waiting for applause. My politics has been on the ground,” he said.

Mr Atiah said his experience had taken him from community to community, where he had worked to mobilise people and support the party, often without public recognition.

He emphasised that his commitment to the NDC had remained strong even during periods when the work offered little immediate personal benefit.

"I have been there when there was no applause. I have worked when there was no camera. I have mobilised when the outcome was uncertain. And I have remained when the work became difficult,” he stated.

Explaining his motivation for seeking the chairmanship, Mr Atiah said he believed his experience at the branch and constituency levels had prepared him for greater responsibility.

"I am not coming to learn the grounds. I know the grounds. I have worked the grounds,” he declared.

He said, if given the opportunity to lead, he would focus on recognising the contributions of branch-level workers, listening to different voices, strengthening party structures and ensuring that grassroots supporters remained valued beyond electoral victories.

Mr Atiah described his decision as a continuation of his longstanding service to the party rather than a departure from his political journey.

"This next step is therefore not a departure from my story. It is the continuation of it,” he said.
