‎"Terry Dinero": Two Arrests After Circle Phone Dealer Lured to His Death in Teshie

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Nana Yaw Kyere, a mobile phone trader from Accra's Circle market known to colleagues and friends as "Dinero" or "Terry," whose body was found in Teshie on the morning of Thursday, 24 September 2026, days after he went missing.

The case has moved fast and grimly through Accra's news cycle over the past week, from a routine missing-person appeal to a homicide investigation with reports of an attempted cover-up.

How it began: a deal, a message, a doubt

Kyere, who worked at a phone shop in the Circle area, reportedly travelled to Teshie to close a business transaction. Around midnight, he sent a WhatsApp message to a colleague claiming he had been "set up" by a woman in a room, attaching a photograph of the location and sharing his live position.

That message was later deleted from the conversation. His colleague grew suspicious not because of what was said, but how: Kyere habitually addressed him as "bro," but the messages that followed used "boy" instead a small inconsistency that, in hindsight, suggested someone else may have been typing from his phone.

A further message reportedly indicated he had been released and was heading home. He never arrived. His Honda Civic, registration DV B9055, went missing along with him, and was later recovered by police.

From missing to murdered
For several days the story remained a missing-person appeal, with his family publicly pleading for information and sharing police contact numbers. That changed on 24 September, when a family statement confirmed the worst: "It is with profound sadness that we share that, after his disappearance, Nana Yaw Kyere has been found.

Regrettably, he was not found alive." Unconfirmed reports circulating alongside the family's statement allege he was kidnapped, killed and buried after being lured to the scene, and separate reporting indicates an attempt had been made to set his body alight before it was discovered a detail suggesting an effort to destroy evidence or delay identification.

The arrests
Reporting on the arrests has varied slightly in number: some outlets cite three suspects taken into custody as the investigation progressed, while Daily Guide's front page today specifies two.

That discrepancy is not unusual in a fast-moving case where suspects are picked up in stages an initial arrest tied to the recovered vehicle, followed by further arrests as leads developed and it should be resolved once police issue a formal charge sheet.

KK What is consistent across all reporting is that the precise cause of death and the full circumstances have not yet been officially confirmed; police investigations continue, and the family has appealed for privacy while that process unfolds.

A community shaken
Circle is one of Accra's most recognisable commercial hubs, and its phone-trading community is tight-knit and cash-intensive by nature, which makes traders both economically visible and, as this case underscores, vulnerable to exactly this kind of premeditated luring scheme.

Kyere's death has visibly rattled that community and drawn wider public reaction, including from Ghanaian media personality Ohemaa Woyeje, who posted a sombre reflection on cruelty in the wake of the news.

The case has strong echoes of an earlier 2026 killing in Accra, in which a 27-year-old car dealer's burnt body was found inside a vehicle at Atomic Junction after he was similarly lured by a buyer, with the eventual suspect tracked down and arrested in Togo a reminder that staged buyer-seller meetings have become a recognisable and dangerous pattern targeting traders in high-value, cash-based goods in Accra.

What to watch next
The key unresolved questions are whether the woman referenced in Kyere's final messages has been identified or is among those arrested, what evidence ties the two (or three) suspects to the killing, and whether the attempted destruction of the body will be charged separately as an aggravating factor.

A police statement with formal charges, once issued, should settle the reporting discrepancies and give the fuller picture Daily Guide's page 3 promises.
