NPP intelligence points to cocaine manufacturing in Ghana – Baffour Awuah

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has claimed that intelligence available to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) points to the existence of a cocaine manufacturing operation in Ghana.

His comment, which was first made at a press conference on Tuesday, September 22, by the NPP's National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, comes amid a recent drug bust in the country.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM on Wednesday, September 23, the lawmaker said the NPP’s position is based on information it has received and verified, although he declined to disclose the alleged location or details of the operation publicly.

“This is a fact based on intelligence. That there’s some degree, some level of manufacturing in here,” Nana Baffour Awuah said.

The MP said the alleged manufacturing claim should be investigated alongside the possibility that Ghana is being used as an entry point for narcotics destined for other countries.

He argued that either scenario would constitute a serious national security concern and justifies the NPP’s call for a parliamentary inquiry into the recent drug seizures.

“When we say let’s have an inquiry into a matter like this, don’t brush it aside. It is on these basis that an inquiry is very necessary,” he said.

Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah said the information would be provided if the government sets up an inquiry into the matter.
