National Security Dismantles Major Counterfeit Currency Network; Pastor Reportedly on the Run ‎

Ghana's National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) says it has dismantled a transnational and domestic criminal network allegedly behind the large-scale production, possession and distribution of counterfeit Ghanaian and foreign currency, following coordinated raids across the Greater Accra Region.

The raids
In a statement issued Tuesday, September 22, the NSCS said tactical units carried out six coordinated raids across Greater Accra and surrounding districts, resulting in the arrest of 16 principal suspects, comprising both Ghanaian and foreign nationals, and the dismantling of four printing hubs.

A key raid on June 29 at Lashibi led to five arrests and the seizure of printing equipment. Follow-up intelligence subsequently led security teams to the headquarters of a religious facility in Klagon, where searches reportedly revealed that a church's administrative offices and residential quarters were allegedly being used as a major production and storage site for the counterfeiting operation.

The pastor named
Rev. Emmanuel Boakye-Danquah, whose church in Klagon was allegedly the site of the operation, is reported to be on the run following the National Security operation. I found no report yet of his arrest, nor of a fetish priest among the 16 arrested; if your source names a fetish priest specifically, it may refer to a detail not yet reflected in the NSCS statement or wider reporting I found.

What was seized
Authorities reportedly seized counterfeit coupons worth over US$5.2 million, CFA 623 million and GH¢7.1 million that had not yet been processed or printed, along with one printing machine and two operational vehicles.
