Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago sign air services agreement

Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago have signed an Air Services Agreement aimed at improving air connectivity between the two countries and opening up additional avenues for bilateral cooperation.

The agreement was signed during a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, S.C., in New York on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

President Mahama said the agreement formed part of broader efforts to strengthen relations between Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago through enhanced connectivity and cooperation.

“This agreement strengthens air connectivity and creates new opportunities for cooperation between our countries,” he said in a Facebook post.

Beyond the aviation agreement, the two leaders also discussed updates to the reparations agenda, as well as trade and investment.

The discussions therefore extended beyond air transport to broader areas of mutual interest between Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.

The engagement on reparations also reflects ongoing discussions between African and Caribbean countries on historical injustices and efforts to strengthen cooperation on issues of shared importance.

The meeting took place in New York, where President Mahama is engaging in diplomatic activities on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
