Five arrested as police seize firearms and suspected narcotics in Tamale

Five persons have been arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command during an operation targeting suspected drug-related activities at Aboabo, a suburb of Tamale.

The operation, carried out at about 11:30 am on September 21, followed intelligence received by the police concerning drug peddling, drug use and other criminal activities in the area.

According to a police statement dated September 22, officers proceeded to the Tamale Aboabo scraps area near the forest, where the five suspects were apprehended.

They have been identified as Ibrahim Issahaku, 39, Mohammed John, 28, Mohammed Nawas, 25, Mohammed Osman Awal, 41, and Kwame Boateng, 28.

A search of Ibrahim Issahaku’s residence led to the discovery of two pistols and two rounds of 9mm ammunition, as well as one parcel of suspected Indian hemp and GH¢1,880.00 in cash.

Police also found GH¢18,825.00 concealed inside Kwame Boateng’s motorcycle at the ghetto. The money is suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic drugs.

Other items retrieved during the operation included 123 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 12 sachets of 1mg Rohypnol, seven sachets of 250mg Tramadol, 111 wraps of suspected ashes and three motorbikes.

The police said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug-related activities and other criminal operations in the Northern Region.
