Man reportedly commits suicide over inability to raise money for son's SHS prospectus in Gusheigu

A man identified as Alhaji Abdulai from Macheleyili, a community in Kpatinga in the Gusheigu District of the Northern Region, has reportedly died by suicide after struggling to raise money for his son’s admission to Senior High School.

Residents said Abdulai had been worried about his inability to raise the money required to purchase items listed for his son’s admission to the school where he had been placed.

According to residents, he had repeatedly spoken about the financial difficulties and, on several occasions, threatened to take his own life if he was unable to raise the needed funds.

They said Abdulai left home on the morning of Sunday, September 20, 2026, but failed to return.

His body was reportedly discovered in the community on the afternoon of Monday, September 21.

The circumstances surrounding his death have not been officially confirmed by the police.

Authorities said they had not received a report on the incident.
