The Recklessness, Hypocrisy and Unprincipled Conduct in Our Politics

The recklessness, hypocrisy and unprincipled conduct being exhibited by some political actors are becoming increasingly dangerous to our democracy.

Constructive propaganda is an accepted part of political polemics, but what we are witnessing now goes beyond political argument. It is increasingly becoming a culture of recklessness, misinformation and lawlessness.

Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has, on several occasions, made serious allegations against the former government, but he supported his claims with facts, figures and documentary evidence. Therefore, if the young men and women in the NPP wish to emulate Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa's style, they must do so constructively by supporting their accusations with verifiable facts and documentary evidence rather than recklessly churning out unsubstantiated information.

Sadly, some of the young men and women whom President Nana Akufo-Addo gave the opportunity to serve in government appear to have disappointed him by failing to demonstrate the significant achievements expected of them.

Unfortunately, Mr. Dominic Nitiwul, the former Defence Minister, knows what transpired during the Konkomba-Nanumba conflict, yet he would deliberately choose to make statements that could inflame tensions between the Konkomba people and the state without providing convincing evidence to support his claims.

Mr. Ntim Fordjour, too, appears to have perfected the art of conjecture, often making serious assertions without providing the evidence necessary to substantiate them.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah and his compatriots, who, failed President Akufo-Addo miserably, are now jumping over themselves to remain politically relevant. They should be asking themselves why NACOC was removed from the Joint Container Inspection at the ports. What could have motivated such a decision? Your guess is as good as mine.

Kevin Taylor has never shied away from being associated with the New Patriotic Party. The cub they have trained have now grown into full-blown lion, devouring everything in his path. They are now blaming the National Democratic Congress for entertaining the monster they helped create.

Instead of the NPP reflecting honestly on the lessons from its time in government, some of its members appear more interested in blaming Kevin Taylor for contributing to their defeat in the 2024 general elections. Consequently, every possible means is being explored to discredit him.

Unfortunately, this approach suggests that the lessons have still not been fully learnt. The more political actors engage in personal attacks and unsubstantiated allegations, the more they risk creating new political voices who will eventually deploy the same tactics against their opponents.

If this culture of “if you do this to me, I will do the same to you” does not stop, we risk gradually walking this Republic into the hands of a military opportunist.
