The Two Carvers of Manyoro
In Manyoro, I saw two old men. One carved his name on a big baobab tree.: NFD 1983. A heavy storm came and uprooted the tree. His name was gone. The other old man never carved on trees. He paid the school fees of a student. That student is today a teacher in a college of education. He always says, “But for the old man, I would not have been a teacher.”
The former’s legacy was short-lived. The latter’s legacy is enduring. He is remembered for his kindness and compassion. He carved on hearts.
Question: Where are you carving? On stones that will be demolished, or on hearts that will beat forever?
THE PROBLEM: We Chase Temporary Fame, Not Impact
Today, everybody is chasing what will make them feel important.; a statue, a plaque, followers, a blue tick. We want our names on buildings: Ayiridaga Memorial House. But buildings collapse.
Remember, your Facebook followers will not carry your coffin. Hearts will. If your pen only chases likes, you carve on sand. The next wave washes it away.
THE 3 CHISELS TO CARVE ON HEARTS
- Serve When No One Is Watching {The Secret Service}
People may forget what you wrote, but they will never forget how you made them rise – how you made them look to the future with hope, how your teachings improved their lives. Every good you do for others is recorded not only in their hearts, but also in heaven.
For example, readers call me “Daddy, Prophet, Sir, Philosopher”- not Because I am perfect, but because I served without expecting clapping or fake praises.
Build no statue. Build people. People will outlive statues.
Speak To Their Pain, Not Just Your Success {The Wound Touch}
Stones are lifeless. Hearts break. Hearts bleed. Don’t just recount your achievements; tell them how you did it. Tell them the procedure, the tortuous path that led to your success. Those are the lessons people embrace.
Tell them, “I started from the trashcan, begging for data bundles, enduring sleepless nights.” When you touch their wounds with your wound, your name enters their heart. The youth of Manyoro don’t need your trophy. They need your scars – the sacrifices you made to get there. They will replicate.
Always remember, “Your pen can be a knife that wounds, or a chisel that carves hope and optimism.
Leave Tools, Not Just Stories {The Legacy Tool}
It is not enough to tell people how rich you are. Give them the tools you used to get there. When they use your tool and succeed, they will never forget the hand that gave it.
PRACTICAL – How To Carve Today To Be Remembered
- One Heart Today: Don’t write for likes or applause; write to lift people from darkness to light.
- One Tool Today: End every article with one practical method they can apply, not just motivation.
- One Prayer Today: Before you publish, pray: “Let this be not just be read. Let this heal and bring warmth.” That has always been my prayer – that my articles should impact lives.
CONCLUSION
One day, my Modern Ghana links will break. My Facebook accounts will be forgotten. But a boy in Manyoro will say, ÄWOLUGUTU’s article taught me discipline, and today I am a medical officer.” That is carved on a heart.
Final Charge: Don’t seek fame, power, and popularity. Seek to be unforgettable in one heart.
Final Question: If your pen drops today, will your name be engraved on a stone or in a heart.
