Ashanti NPP inaugurates six committees ahead of 2028 elections

The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has constituted and inaugurated six specialised committees as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The committees, made up of professionals and experienced party members drawn from academia, law, business, healthcare and public administration, were sworn into office on Wednesday by the Regional Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as “Asanteman COKA.”

The new committees are expected to support the elected regional executives in key areas of party administration, with a focus on improving efficiency, strengthening discipline, mobilising supporters and deepening grassroots engagement across the region.

The six committees are the Disciplinary Committee, Elections Committee, Finance Committee, Professional Bodies Committee, Research Committee, and Youth and Campus Committee.

The Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu, has been tasked with promoting party ethics, addressing internal disputes and ensuring discipline within the party. Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare will serve as secretary, with Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, Madam Mary Duodu and Dr. George Ayisi-Boateng as members.

The Elections Committee will be chaired by Frederick Fredua Anto, a former three-term Regional Chairman, with former Regional Chairman Yaw Amankwa serving as Vice Chairman. Owusu Kwabena Jnr is the Secretary. Other members include Hon. Grace Addo, Hon. Faustina Amissah, Dr. Hubert Asiedu, Prof. Peter Twumasi, Hon. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, Michael Essel-Mills, Papa Yaw Asare Bediako John, Patrick Acheampong, Christian Adu Poku, Kwame Antwi Esq. and others.

Mr. Oppon Bio has been appointed Chairman of the Finance Committee, supported by Ben Owusu as Vice Chairman and Lawrence Amankwah as Secretary. The committee will focus on resource mobilisation, budgeting and financial oversight of the regional party structure. Its members include Mr. Kofi Ampofo, Maataa Opare Esq., Madam Dokuaa, Hajia Zeinab Sallow, Dr. Richard Boadu, Madam Helena Mensah, Adwoa Adutwumwaa, Mr. Charles Yeboah, Ruth Osei, Mrs. Victoria Owusu-Achiaw, Isaac Osei Kwarteng, Edward Boateng and Hon. Philip Ofori-Asiedu.

The Professional Bodies Committee, chaired by Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, former Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, is expected to strengthen the party’s engagement with professional associations, intellectual groups and leaders in various sectors. Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo is the Vice Chairman, while Yaw Boafo Esq. serves as Secretary. Other members are Dr. Ernest Kwarko, Mr. Kwadwo Banahene, Madam Lydia Fofie and Madam Vivian Addo Cobbiah.

The Research Committee will be led by Dr. Emmanuel Adu Amankwah as Chairman, with Ishaq Brobbey as Vice Chairman and Abraham Mensah as Secretary. Its mandate includes research, data gathering, policy analysis, monitoring voter trends and supporting evidence-based campaign planning. Members are Prof. Solomon Kwarteng Forkuoh, Prof. Sampson Anomah, Prof. Enoch Acheampong, Dr. Edmund Oppong Peprah, Dr. Samuel Afriyie, Dr. Evans Duah and Dr. Owusu Agyemang.

The Youth and Campus Committee, chaired by Mr. Paul Sarbeng, will concentrate on youth mobilisation, engagement with tertiary institutions and the expansion of the party’s Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON). Claudia Lumor is the Vice Chairperson, while Eric Asonade serves as Secretary. Members include Kingsley Bonsu Kyeretwie Esq., John Kwame Duodu, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, Nkansah Ababio, Obidombie Kwabena Asamoah, Nana Ama Tima Boakye, Martin Ameyaw, Emmanuel Yiadom Boakye, Olivia Oduro, Ohemeng Ian Moore, Lexy Abena Boahen, Ophelia Samaaba Prempeh-Kessie and Daniel Kofi Aidoo.

Addressing the newly inaugurated committees, Regional Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah called on members to uphold the commitments contained in their oaths of office and secrecy.

He stressed the importance of unity, confidentiality and cooperation among the committees and the regional executive leadership, saying their collective expertise would be important to the party’s efforts ahead of the next general elections.

"I urge you to respect your oath of office and maintain confidentiality by working seamlessly together. Our goal is to provide quality leadership so that the Ashanti Region can lead the charge in securing political power in the next general elections. I have absolute confidence in the expertise represented in these committees, and together with the regional executive body, we will deliver exceptional service to the NPP and the people of Ashanti," Chairman Odeneho stated.

He also urged the committee chairpersons and coordinators to maintain mutual respect and discipline while working closely together to ensure effective coordination and a harmonious working environment.

Responding on behalf of the six committees, Disciplinary Committee Chairman Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu thanked the regional executive for the confidence placed in the appointees.

He pledged that the members would bring their professional experience, knowledge and commitment to bear on the work of the party and called for cooperation among all committee members.

"I stand here on behalf of all six committees to pledge our total commitment," Hon. Osei-Owusu stated.

He added that, "we will work conscientiously and strategically to elevate the Ashanti NPP and ensure a decisive political victory for our party."
