Ashanti NPP executives donate to Obuasi market fire victims

The Ashanti Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by Regional Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Asanteman COKA, have donated relief items and cash to victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Town-Hall Market in the Obuasi Municipality.

The delegation visited the municipality on Tuesday morning to assess the situation and provide immediate assistance to traders affected by the disaster.

As part of the relief package, the regional executives presented 15 sewing machines and GH¢40,000 in cash to support the affected traders in rebuilding their livelihoods.

Before the donation, Chairman Odeneho and his team visited several satellite markets across Obuasi to assess conditions and interact with residents.

Speaking to affected market women and traders at the main market, Chairman Odeneho said the relief initiative was organised immediately after the regional executives were informed about the fire.

"Today's donation is to let you know that we care about everyone living in the Ashanti Region, especially our mothers and traders who keep our local economy alive," Chairman Odeneho stated.

He said the NPP’s focus remained centred on improving the welfare of citizens and promoting economic empowerment, in response to concerns raised by local vendor groups.

Chairman Odeneho further assured the traders that the newly elected regional executive body would continue to pay attention to the needs of market women, small business operators and artisans across the region.

He said the regional leadership would also work with the party’s national leadership to ensure that concerns from communities were taken into consideration in policy discussions as the NPP prepares its platform for the upcoming general elections.

Receiving the relief package on behalf of the affected traders, Mrs. Helena Mensah thanked Chairman Odeneho and the delegation for the gesture.

She said although the traders expected the executives to visit the community, the level of support provided, particularly the cash and sewing machines, had surpassed their expectations.

Mrs. Mensah assured the delegation that the items and funds would be distributed transparently among those affected by the fire.

The 15 sewing machines will be allocated to tailors and dressmakers who lost their equipment and shops in the fire, while the GH¢40,000 cash assistance will be shared among affected vendors as seed capital to help them restock and restart their businesses.
