Family of Salormey Baffoe appeals for her release from alleged National Security detention

The family of Salormey Awiti Baffoe, a 40-year-old nurse in charge of the Emergency Ward at the Abrafi Women and Children’s Hospital in Techiman, has appealed to the National Security and President John Dramani Mahama for her immediate release, insisting that she has no connection with the social media personality known as “Ghana Jollof.”

According to the family, Madam Baffoe was picked up from her residence at Hansua, near Techiman, in the Bono East Region, around midnight on Sunday, September 13, 2026, by three individuals—two men and a woman—who allegedly identified themselves as National Security operatives.

The family says she was at home with her three sons, aged 15, nine and five, as well as her younger brother, when the incident occurred.

The relatives said that after learning of her arrest, they made enquiries at the Police, former Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and National Security offices in Techiman, but were allegedly told that the security agencies had no knowledge of the arrest or her whereabouts.

Family denies ‘Ghana Jollof’ allegations

Speaking at a press conference in Techiman on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Mr Abraham Owusu Ansah, uncle of Salormey Baffoe and spokesperson for the family, said subsequent enquiries suggested that she had been taken to the National Security Headquarters in Accra.

He said the family had been informed that she was allegedly arrested over claims that she was the social media political commentator popularly known as “Ghana Jollof” or had some connection to the content produced by the commentator.

Mr Owusu Ansah strongly rejected the allegation, maintaining that the family had no reason to believe that Salormey was involved in political commentary on social media.

“Our daughter is not ‘Ghana Jollof’ and has nothing to do with political commentary on social media,” he said.

He appealed to the security authorities to establish the facts surrounding her detention and release her if no offence had been established against her.

Mother appeals to President Mahama

Madam Esther Owusu Ansah, the biological mother of Salormey Baffoe, also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama and the National Security authorities to intervene in the matter.

She said her daughter was innocent of the allegations and expressed concern about the effect of her absence on her three children.

“I am appealing to President John Dramani Mahama, the First Lady Lordina Mahama and National Security to release my daughter because she is innocent. Her children are suffering without their mother,” she said.

The family, which hails from Jema in the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region, described itself as God-fearing and said Salormey was not the kind of person who would engage in activities that could lead to such allegations.

Mr Owusu Ansah said the family’s primary concern was to know Salormey’s whereabouts, ensure her safety and secure her release if there was no lawful basis for her continued detention.

Brother recounts alleged arrest

Francis Antwi, also known as Joe, the younger brother of Salormey Baffoe who was reportedly present at the residence on the night of the incident, also addressed the press conference.

He provided an account of events leading to his sister’s arrest and described the uncertainty and distress that followed after she was taken away.

The family said it had been unable to establish direct contact with Salormey since her arrest and was therefore calling on the appropriate authorities to provide information about her condition and whereabouts.

The relatives have consequently appealed to the security agencies to handle the matter with urgency and respect for her rights, while calling for her immediate release if the allegations against her cannot be substantiated.
