TRAFFITECH-GH: Police to use cameras, PDAs to detect traffic offences from October 1

The Ghana Police Service will commence the full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1.

The programme, being implemented through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), is aimed at tackling indiscipline on Ghana’s roads and improving compliance with road traffic laws and regulations.

It will use cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences and support the enforcement of road traffic regulations.

“TRAFFITECH-GH will use cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences and support the enforcement of road traffic regulations,” the Police Service said in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 15.

Under the programme, detected offences will be reviewed before Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) are issued to vehicle owners or drivers through SMS.

The electronic notices will indicate the traffic offence committed and the prescribed fine.

The Police Service has therefore urged motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road traffic regulations as the programme moves into full implementation.

It said the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote safer roads and reduce road traffic crashes and casualties.

“The Ghana Police Service, through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), will commence full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, from 1st October 2026,” the statement said.
