IFC MD Makhtar Diop to visit Ghana

The Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Makhtar Diop, will visit Ghana from September 15 to 17, 2026, to engage public and private sector leaders on efforts to mobilise greater private investment to support the country's development priorities.

During the visit, Mr Diop will meet senior government officials and engage business leaders, entrepreneurs, civil society organisations, academic institutions and members of Ghana's creative sector.

The discussions will focus on opportunities and constraints affecting private sector growth, as well as ways to strengthen competitiveness, expand access to finance and create more and better jobs.

The visit will also feature high-level engagements and partnership announcements across agribusiness, education, youth employment and skills development, access to finance, industrial development, renewable energy and the creative economy.

According to the IFC, the engagements will highlight how private investment can support priority sectors, strengthen domestic value chains and drive business growth and job creation.

The IFC's work in Ghana includes support for businesses, domestic value chains and access to finance for farmers, entrepreneurs, women-owned businesses and other underserved groups.

Recent interventions include financing to expand credit across the cocoa value chain and support food security, investments in manufacturing, recycling, renewable energy and industrial infrastructure, as well as investment and advisory support for small and medium-sized enterprises.

In fiscal year 2026, the IFC committed US$670 million through its own account and mobilisation in Ghana, compared with US$61 million in fiscal year 2021.

Mr Diop has served as Managing Director of the IFC since March 2021. He previously served as the World Bank's Vice President for Infrastructure and Vice President for Africa.

The IFC is a member of the World Bank Group and focuses on supporting private sector development in emerging markets. It works in more than 100 countries, providing capital, expertise and other support to create markets and opportunities in developing economies.
