ECOWAS, Tunisia seek stronger cooperation in technology, security and infrastructure

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Tunisia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in technology, security, sustainable development and infrastructure.

The commitment was made when ECOWAS Commission President, General Birame Diop, received Tunisia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohsen Antit, for a courtesy call at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday, September 11.

The meeting focused on deepening relations between ECOWAS and Tunisia and identifying areas where both sides can collaborate to support regional integration and economic development.

Both sides identified technology and digitalisation, security, sustainable development and infrastructure as key areas for stronger cooperation.

They also discussed knowledge-sharing and information exchange, particularly in areas of digital innovation, climate resilience and inclusive economic growth.

The two sides further highlighted the need for increased investment in transport, energy and connectivity to improve regional integration and strengthen economic competitiveness.

In a news release issued on Tuesday, September 15, the ECOWAS Commission noted that greater cooperation in these areas could also contribute to promoting peace and sustainable development across the region.

The meeting ended with a commitment by both sides to maintain dialogue, strengthen institutional relations and identify concrete opportunities for collaboration.
