King Charles comments for the first time on Harry and Wife‘s return to UK

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are back in the UK. King Charles III has now clarified for the first time what this means for their status within the Royal Family.

As reported by the British website ‘Standard’, Charles has sent a letter to senior representatives from the government, the military and the Lord-Lieutenancies. This was reportedly in response to several enquiries regarding how Harry and Meghan should be classified following their return.

King Charles confirms the couple’s existing status The letter states: “To avoid any doubt or confusion, the King has instructed that the following information be communicated.” The message is clear: “There is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”

It goes on to explain that their role corresponds to “that of private individuals with commercial and charitable interests”. This maintains the approach designed to ensure the couple’s financial independence whilst also allowing them greater privacy.

Security arrangements in the UK will also remain as they are

The letter also addresses an issue that has preoccupied Harry for years: personal security in the United Kingdom. According to the letter, decisions regarding police protection will continue to be made by the relevant government authorities. King Charles has no direct influence over this.

According to the *Daily Mail*, the letter was also sent directly to Harry and Meghan, who relied on old trusted friends upon their return. The report also states that, according to the Palace, this clarification remains in line with the 2020 Sandringham Agreement. This agreement sets out the framework for their withdrawal from the front line of the royal family and is still said to apply.

Return to England at the end of August Harry and Meghan returned to the UK from California on 26 August, together with Archie and Lilibet. The two children are expected to attend school in England in future. There has been no official confirmation of the family’s exact place of residence as yet. However, British media are reporting that Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry are said to be staying with a friend.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are living in the UK again, but apparently do not yet have a home of their own. According to an insider, the family will have to stay with a friend for the time being until they manage to buy a property.

“They are currently staying in a house on a friend’s estate,” a confidant of Prince Harry told the British news website, Daily Mail.

According to the acquaintance, the search is likely to take some time. Harry and Meghan do not, therefore, expect to find a suitable property that is ready to move into any time soon. It could therefore take another “12 to 18 months” before the family can move into a home of their own. This would be the case even if Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, who have sent ‘warning letters’ to other parents at the school, were to finalise a purchase by the end of this year or early 2027.
