'Cocaine Coast' — Ntim Fordjour accuses gov't as drug busts connected to Ghana cross $1 billion

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a Ranking Member on Parliament's Defence Committee, has accused Mahama's government of complicity in a series of major drug busts linked to Ghana, alleging the country is "fast becoming a cocaine coast" under what he described as state inaction.

In a social media post, Fordjour said he had raised concerns as far back as April 2025 over a $500 million cocaine case and suspicious flights, but accused government of responding to his alarm not with investigation, but with intimidation.

"I raised alarm on the $500m cocaine and suspicious flights in April 2025. Instead of the government investigating the matter and prosecuting the culprits, the govt chose to storm my house with armed thugs under the supervision of BNI," he said.

He pointed to a subsequent case in April 2026, in which $208 million worth of methamphetamine linked to Ghana was intercepted in Australia. He said the Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed had told Parliament that government officials were complicit in the trade, yet none had been named or prosecuted since.

"The Interior Minister indicated to Parliament that government officials were complicit yet, no government official has since [been] named nor prosecuted," he said.

Fordjour then cited the latest bust: $260 million worth of cocaine originating from Ghana intercepted in France, adding to what he described as a growing pattern under the current administration.

"In less than 2 years under the NDC Mahama government, over $1billion unprecedented worth of drugs have been busted in and out of our ports and yet no government official has been fired for their failure," he said.

He questioned whether government's inaction reflected direct involvement or benefit from the trade.

"Is the government directly facilitating these narcotics transits or benefiting from the trade, for which they have failed to take steps to disincentivize drug trafficking?" he asked.
