SHS placement crisis: We won’t take guidance from those who created the crisis – Apaak hits back at NPP

Deputy Minister for Education Clement Abas Apaak has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former officials of the Ministry of Education of hypocrisy over the recent challenges confronting the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

His comments come amid a public back-and-forth between Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and his predecessor, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, over the causes of the current placement challenges and the management of the education sector under the previous administration.

In recent media interviews, Dr Osei Adutwum has defended his record and offered proposals for addressing the placement challenges.

However, speaking on Accra-based TV3's New Day show on Friday, September 11, Haruna Iddrisu questioned why the former minister appears to have solutions now that he is out of government.

Reacting to the development on the same day, Dr. Apaak said the current administration would not take guidance from individuals it believes contributed to the challenges it has inherited in the education sector.

“The Honourable Minister for Education and I will not just counter the lies and propaganda of the NPP and our predecessors at MoE, we will expose their shameless hypocrisy,” he wrote.

The Deputy Minister, however, acknowledged that more work remained to be done, insisting that the government was actively addressing the challenges confronting the sector.

“Unlike them, we admit that there is more to be done. However, we are boldly addressing the challenges bedeviling the sector,” he stated.
