
A 52-year-old spiritualist and farmer, Baba Ibrahim, popularly known as Alhaji Nagode, has been found dead in a suspected suicide at Assin Amoabeng, a suburb of Nyankomasi Ahenkuro in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 0640 hours on Monday, according to the deceased’s 14-year-old daughter.
She told authorities that her father had asked her to take her younger sibling to school and return home for money to buy food.
However, she said that about 30 minutes after leaving the house, she returned and found her father hanging with a rope around his neck.
The teenager raised an alarm, attracting community members to the scene.
Baba Ibrahim was known in the community for his advocacy against illegal mining and environmental degradation.
He was also involved in a court case with another resident of the community, with the matter scheduled to be heard on Tuesday.
He is survived by 7 children, the youngest of whom is 5 years old.
The Assembly Member for the area, Ekow Sadique Aidoo, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency that the incident had been reported to the police.
At the time of filing the report, the body was being conveyed to the morgue by the police.
A police source said investigations had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
