Muntaka pledges more development as Asokore Mampong commissions new classroom blocks

The Asokore Mampong Municipality is set for further development as the Member of Parliament for Asawase and Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure and living conditions in the area.

The MP made the commitment on Monday, September 7, 2026, when he joined residents and stakeholders to commission 2 new classroom blocks at Asokore Mampong R/C Primary and New Aboabo M/A Primary (Middle B).

The projects comprise a 6-unit classroom block at Asokore Mampong R/C Primary and a 3-unit block at New Aboabo M/A Primary. They are expected to ease overcrowding and provide pupils with a more conducive environment for learning.

‘My Position Must Bring Development Home’

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Muntaka said his appointment as Minister for the Interior should translate into tangible development for the people of Asokore Mampong.

He said although the municipality had benefited from a number of development projects under his leadership and support, he was not satisfied with the progress made so far.

“If God has lifted me up to my present status as Interior Minister, it is incumbent on me to ensure my status mirrors the development enjoyed by my area,” he stated.

The MP pledged to maintain his support for the municipality despite the demands of his responsibilities at the national level.

Hardworking Teachers to Be Rewarded
Hon. Muntaka also announced plans to establish an award scheme to recognise teachers in Asokore Mampong who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their work and contribute to improved academic performance.

He further pledged to provide teachers with comfortable and appropriate chairs and tables, stressing the importance of decent working conditions for educators.

Beyond teacher welfare, the MP disclosed that funding had been secured for the construction of a new Municipal Education Office.

He also promised to provide an ultramodern playground for pupils of Asokore Mampong R/C Primary.

Traditional Leader Commends MP
The Akwaamuhene of Asokore Mampong, Oheneba Nana Kofi Nti, commended Hon. Muntaka for his contribution to the development of the municipality.

Nana Kofi Nti, a former Assembly Member, disclosed that the classroom project was initiated during his tenure, with the late chief financing the construction and settling the project’s bills.

He expressed appreciation to the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ben Abdellah Alhassan, and Hon. Muntaka for their efforts towards completing the project.

He, however, appealed for additional classrooms, citing the school’s large student population and the resulting congestion.

School Appeals for Additional Support
The Headmistress of Asokore Mampong R/C Primary, Madam Esther Serwaa Addo, expressed gratitude for the new facility but said the school still required further assistance.

She appealed for the rehabilitation of the computer laboratory, construction of a modern library and common hall, as well as an ultramodern playground for the early childhood unit.

She also called for the completion of the abandoned AstroTurf project and the provision of additional desks and other learning materials.

MCE Highlights Development Projects
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ben Abdellah Alhassan, said the Assembly had taken steps to address concerns raised by the school authorities and commended Hon. Muntaka for his instrumental role in the classroom project.

He outlined several other development interventions in the municipality, including a 400-capacity girls’ dormitory at Kumasi Academy SHS, a mechanised borehole project for the Asokore Mampong Police Station, roads awaiting asphalt surfacing and street-lighting projects.

He also disclosed that 10,400 desks had been distributed to public schools in the municipality within one year.

According to the MCE, preparations were also underway for an initiative to recognise the municipality’s best-performing teachers.

Middle B JHS Calls for Improved Facilities

At New Aboabo M/A Primary, the Headmistress of Middle B JHS, Madam Akua Anima, welcomed the new classroom block and pledged to ensure that the facility was properly maintained.

She appealed for improved toilet facilities and suitable furniture for the headteacher’s office.

Madam Anima also raised concerns about activities at the nearby AstroTurf, saying sporting activities sometimes interfere with academic work because of the facility’s proximity to the school.

She therefore appealed for activities at the facility to end by 7:00 a.m. to minimise disruption to teaching and learning.

The commissioning of the 2 classroom blocks adds to ongoing development interventions in Asokore Mampong, with Hon. Muntaka signalling that further projects and initiatives are expected to follow.

His commitments include improved school infrastructure, teacher recognition and welfare, a new Municipal Education Office and an ultramodern playground as part of efforts to accelerate development in the municipality.
