One bus ride out of Bekwai in 1968. That is all it took to set off a chain of events that would take a barefoot village boy to the top of Ghana’s most sensitive security institutions. And he is finally telling the whole story.

What looked, on the surface, like an ordinary relocation from Bekwai to Accra turned out to be the spark that lit an extraordinary life. In ‘Frankly Speaking’, COP Frank Adu-Poku (Rtd) pulls back the curtain on exactly how that single move set off a whirlwind he never saw coming.

The former Executive Director of EOCO is one of Ghana’s most trusted security officials. He was the first to establish and head the Legal Directorate of the Ghana Police Service. Over a career spanning decades, he served as Deputy CEO of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), Ashanti Regional Police Commander, and a United Nations peacekeeper in Sierra Leone and Mozambique, among many other roles.

But before any of those titles, there was just a young man from Bekwai with a one-way ticket to Accra and no idea what waited for him there. ‘Frankly Speaking’ is the story of how that journey unfolded: a lawyer who became a policeman; a policeman who became an investigator who rose to lead the CID as Director-General.

COP Frank Adu-Poku (Rtd) doesn’t just recount a career; he traces, step by step, the resilience it took to survive the years nobody was watching. ‘Frankly Speaking’ is more than a memoir. It is a masterclass on resilience, support systems, and leadership. It is proof that where you start is never where you have to end up.
