Federated Commodities PLC cuts sod for new JHS blocks at Kojo Bortey and Appiahkrom in Amenfi West

Licensed cocoa buying firm, Federated Commodities PLC has officially broken ground for the construction of Junior High School (JHS) classroom blocks in Kojo Bortey and Appiahkrom, two farming communities in the Amenfi West Constituency of the Western Region.

The infrastructure project is designed to resolve a critical deficit in both communities, where local primary schools operate without JHS facilities, forcing pupils to trek long distances to neighbouring towns to complete their basic education.

The development package for each community includes a fully furnished JHS classroom block, a staff common room, separate washroom facilities for teachers and students, and a mechanized borehole to provide clean drinkable water.

Following the formal sod-cutting ceremony held on September 2, 2026, physical construction is set to begin in October 2026, with full completion targeted for March 2027. Dell Logistics has been awarded the contract to execute the works.

Company officials noted that the projects form an integral part of Federated Commodities’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, which prioritizes rural development and social infrastructure in cocoa-growing areas.

This latest initiative adds to a series of community-level investments undertaken by the company in recent years. Previous interventions include the construction of a six-unit classroom block at Domeabra with a staff common room, an ICT laboratory, washrooms, an astroturf pitch, and a mechanized borehole. Similarly, at Kwamang, the company built and handed over a fully furnished Kindergarten block, staff room, ICT lab, washrooms, and a mechanized water system.

The new facilities at Kojo Bortey and Appiahkrom are expected to serve the two host communities as well as several surrounding villages across the Amenfi West enclave.
