A/R: 8 illegal miners die after pit collapse at Domi Keniago

Eight illegal miners have died after a mining pit collapsed on 12 workers at Domi Keniago in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

The collapse trapped 8 of the miners underground, while the remaining 4 workers managed to escape without injuries.

The incident triggered a rescue and recovery operation involving the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other emergency responders.

4 excavators were deployed to support the operation as rescuers worked to clear the debris and locate the trapped miners.

The deceased have been identified as Kwaku Dada, Akwasi Awudu, Kwaku Badu, Chinchilla, Kwame, Awelo, Kofi Asaa and Kojo Buabeng.

The tragedy has once again raised concerns over the dangers associated with illegal mining, particularly the risks posed by unstable and inadequately secured mining pits.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collapse.
