41 more Ghanaians evacuated home from South Africa

The Government of Ghana on Wednesday, 2nd September, 2026 evacuated forty-one (41) more Ghanaians affected by the xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The returnees were welcomed on arrival at the Accra International Airport by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, Head of Delivery Unit, together with a cross-section of Directors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials from other institutions including the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Health Service, Port Health Authority, Ghana Red Cross Society and the Ghana Armed Forces.

Ambassador Ntrakwa welcomed the evacuees to Ghana and assured them of the Government’s continued commitment to ensure their welfare, safety and successful reintegration into their communities.

He encouraged the returnees to remain hopeful as they begin a new chapter of their lives and urged them to use their skills, experiences and knowledge productively towards rebuilding their lives and contributing to national development.

He reiterated Government’s commitment to working with relevant institutions and stakeholders to facilitate the reintegration of the returnees and indicated that measures had been put in place to support them in that endeavour.

The returnees, in turn, expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for prioritising their safety and welfare by facilitating their safe return and for the support extended to them throughout the evacuation process.
