Ho Central NDC Chairman hopeful calls for reconnection with grassroots

An aspiring Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ho Central Constituency, Hon. Richard Ahiafor, has called for a renewed relationship between constituency leadership and the grassroots, saying delegates and party activists must once again feel valued and included.

In a message titled "When Home No Longer Feels Like Home: The Story of Ho Central Constituency and Its Delegates," Hon. Ahiafor expressed concern over what he described as a weakening connection between constituency leadership and ordinary party members.

According to him, there was a time when the Ho Central Constituency was perceived as a close-knit political home where delegates, branch executives and party activists could easily interact with their leaders and have their concerns heard.

He argued that although grassroots members continue to sacrifice their time, energy and resources for the NDC, some have increasingly questioned whether their contributions are being adequately recognised and supported.

"Who is looking after us?" he asks, highlighting concerns he says are being raised by some grassroots members.

Hon. Ahiafor said branch executives, ward coordinators, women activists, young people and party elders all play important roles in sustaining the party and therefore deserve meaningful recognition and support.

He stressed that constituency leadership should not be limited to occupying positions or operating from an office, but must involve accessibility, listening, accountability and service to the grassroots.

The Ho Central NDC Chairman hopeful said leadership must regularly engage branch structures and party members, rather than waiting until elections are approaching before reconnecting with them.

He proposed a constituency where delegates can confidently say that their leadership knows them, listens to them, respects their sacrifices and supports their aspirations.

According to him, rebuilding trust within the constituency requires bringing leadership closer to the people and ensuring that grassroots members have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting the party.

He further emphasised the importance of recognising the contributions of the party's various groups, including the youth, women, elders, branch executives and delegates.

Hon. Ahiafor maintained that his message is not intended to blame previous leadership but to encourage reflection and a new direction for Ho Central.

He believes the constituency can regain a stronger sense of unity by prioritising accessibility, accountability, inclusiveness and service.

"Ho Central is our home. And if the home has lost its warmth, then the answer is not to abandon it. The answer is to rebuild it," he said.

He said his vision is to build a constituency where no delegate feels forgotten and where leadership stands with the people rather than above them on his campaigning message: "Serving All, Leaving No One Behind."

He says his ultimate objective is to help restore confidence, strengthen grassroots engagement and make the Ho Central Constituency feel like home again for every party member.
