Volta Region women lead special clean-up exercise ahead of Asogli Yam Festival

The Environmental Health and Sanitation Ladies Association (ENVIRON LADIES), in collaboration with the Ho Municipal Assembly, has announced a special clean-up exercise in Ho as part of activities marking the September 2026 National Sanitation Day.

The exercise is expected to mobilise women in leadership, public institutions, religious organisations, schools and residents to help clean and beautify the municipality ahead of this year’s Asogli Yam Festival.

According to a schedule issued by the Ho Municipal Assembly, the exercise will be led by the wives of key public officials, including the Regional Minister, Member of Parliament and Municipal Chief Executive, alongside other women in leadership positions.

The special exercise is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and will cover various parts of Ho, including the Oxygen City area.

Participating institutions have been assigned specific areas where they are expected to undertake activities including sweeping, weeding, clearing, desilting and general environmental beautification.

The designated areas include the stretch from the Guinness/Coca-Cola Depot to the Sky Plus Hotel Junction, which has been assigned to GCB, Stanbic and Fidelity banks, together with Environ Ladies from Agortime-Ziope.

The ECG through Lokoe to the UHAS Junction area will be handled by E.P. Church Women, the Fire and Prisons Services, SSNIT, SIC and ECG staff.

The Ahoe Roundabout to Power-House stretch has been assigned to GHABA, the Police Service and their wives, Mawuko SHS and Environ Ladies from Adaklu.

Other areas include the Alinco Filling Station at Zongo to the market, assigned to the Police Training School and Pentecost Church Women; the Guinness/Coca-Cola Depot to Star Oil Filling Station at Lokoe, assigned to MTN and Environ Ladies from South Dayi; and the Kpene Junction to Zongo Junction stretch, which will be handled by 66 Artillery and its wives and HMA Environ Ladies.

The Ho Market and Lorry Station have been assigned to NDC Ladies and market women.

The Assembly has also directed all public and private schools to undertake similar cleaning and beautification activities within and around their school premises.

Chiefs and Assembly Members have meanwhile been tasked with mobilising residents in their respective communities to participate in the clean-up exercise at the nearest designated location.

The initiative forms part of efforts to ensure that Ho is clean, green and attractive as the municipality prepares to host visitors for the Asogli Yam Festival.

Speaking on Stone City Radio on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the Regional Director of Environmental Health, Madam Stella Kumedzro, commended women in the Volta Region for their commitment to sanitation and their support for the initiative.

She said the exercise would subsequently be extended to other parts of the Volta Region as part of efforts to promote improved sanitation and environmental cleanliness.
