The Department of Urban Roads (DUR), under the Ministry of Roads and Highways, has announced a temporary half-day closure of a major section of the Kumasi Inner Ring Road on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

The affected stretch covers the section between the Ahodwo Roundabout (Georgia Hotel Junction) and the Ark Intersection. Traffic will be blocked from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM to facilitate safety during technical works in the area.

According to a public notice signed by the Ashanti Regional Director of Urban Roads, Surv. Na-Em Iddrisu, the temporary disruption is to allow the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to decommission conductors as part of an ongoing project to upgrade service lines between the Anwomaso and Abinkyi substations.

To minimise traffic congestion, motorists approaching the Ahodwo Roundabout and the Ark Intersection have been advised to adhere to directional signs placed at vantage points.

Drivers can divert through alternative routes, including Harper Road, Melcom Road, and Lake Road.

The Department of Urban Roads expressed regret over any inconvenience the six-hour closure may cause to commuters and the general public, urging road users to plan their trips ahead of time to ensure smooth travel across the metropolis.
