The Efforts of the Upper West MP Caucus Must Be Commended

The Upper West MP Caucus has not abandoned us in our activism for good roads. We fought hard throughout the eight-year NPP regime but received little attention as a region. Our plight worsened after the 2021 floods washed away many critical roads.

Hope was renewed with the NDC government in 2025. Our MPs, led by Hon. Sebastian Sandaare, spoke forcefully on the floor of Parliament, lobbied behind the scenes, and amplified our voices. Government listened and captured our most critical roads under its "Big Push" programme. The activism continues — we demand speed and quality. The Caucus engaged the Minister for Roads, and together they toured the roads, insisting on timelines and standards.

Just last weekend, the MPs were back on the roads, demanding that the right thing be done. This is unprecedented. They are working tirelessly to meet the expectations of the region. When these projects are completed, it will be a collective victory, but we will remember those who showed leadership.

Their teamwork is evident elsewhere too — notably their collaboration with the Speaker of Parliament to establish a dialysis centre at the Regional Hospital. If this unity is sustained, we will achieve more together.

These MPs listen. They understand the frustration, disappointment and high expectations of our people. To whom much is given, much is expected, and many believe only the NDC can fix our problems — and the time is now. I am glad our MPs remain connected to the reality on the ground. Many leaders fail when they lose that connection.

We are not asking them for money; we are asking them to fix our problems. If they are working relentlessly toward that goal, we must rally behind them. Their performance should be judged on how they solve our problems, not on personal scores, trivialities, likes or dislikes.

The Caucus is now visibly impactful, responsive and proactive. That is indisputable.

Comrades must not fall for the NPP's labelling of our MPs as "unproductive." That negativity is born of envy and their unrealistic dream of winning seats in the region. At least we now have a government that sees us as part of Ghana and is working to give us our fair share of the national cake.

When these interventions begin to show physically, we will all appreciate the difference between the NPP and the NDC. One strength of the NDC is that we hold our own government accountable. As a social democratic party, we stand with the people to demand what is due them, because development, equality, accountability and fairness are fundamental pillars of our governance.
