Fast-rising gospel musician Essi Donkor is set to donate exercise books and other stationery items to the Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo D/A Primary School through her foundation.
About 1,500 pupils are expected to benefit from the gesture, which will be the maiden project of the foundation.
Essi Donkor says she has decided to start the initiative from her hometown because it is where her journey as a musician began.
Speaking in an interview, the gospel musician said preparations for the donation are far advanced and that she is looking forward to giving back to the community.
“Ok, I plan to start from my hometown first because that's where everything started. Plans are far advanced. Neighboring towns won't be left out,” she said.
Essi Donkor believes starting the initiative from Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo is important because of the role the community has played in her life and musical journey.
The exercise books and stationery items will be presented to pupils of the school as part of the foundation’s efforts to support their education and make learning materials more accessible to them.
According to Essi Donkor, the donation is only the beginning, as her foundation has plans to reach other communities in the future.
She said neighbouring towns will also benefit from the foundation’s activities as the initiative grows.
The gospel musician is hopeful that the foundation will continue to support children and communities while she pursues her music career.
The maiden donation is expected to mark the beginning of more community-focused activities by Essi Donkor and her foundation.
