Armed robbers who forced victims to surrender MoMo PINs at machete point arrested in Wa

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects believed to be part of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly operating in the Wa West District and Wa Municipality.

The arrests followed months of intelligence gathering and coordinated operations by the Police, which led to the identification of individuals suspected to be behind a series of robbery attacks in the region.

According to the Police, members of the syndicate attacked victims with machetes and allegedly forced them to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs). The suspects then allegedly used the PINs to transfer money from the victims’ accounts into MoMo accounts controlled by the gang.

The suspects have been identified as Amadu Moro, 35; Adama Yussif, 40; Iddrissu Adama, 35; Korika Issaka, 20; Zakaria Brigi, 21; and the late Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52.

Preliminary investigations have linked key members of the group, including Yussif, Moro and the deceased Abdul Rahman, to several robbery incidents reported at Kpenateng Junction on August 1, 2026; Kulkpara-Dapoha on June 19; Kpenateng Community on June 15; and Piisi-Dapoha on March 27.

The Police said investigations had so far established that the suspects allegedly stole about GH¢22,070 in cash from victims, while an additional GH¢3,274 was transferred through the victims’ MoMo accounts.

Seven mobile phones retrieved from the suspects have also been seized and are undergoing examination as part of the investigation.

The Police further disclosed that Abdul Rahman sustained injuries during the operation and died upon arrival at the Upper West Regional Hospital. His body has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary pending preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, two other suspects believed to be members of the syndicate remain at large. They are 30-year-old Haruna, who is allegedly the group’s armourer, and 24-year-old Amadu Mahamudu, the son of the deceased suspect.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has urged residents, particularly those in communities affected by the recent robberies, to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the Police.

The Command has also appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist in apprehending the two wanted suspects and prevent further criminal activities in the region.
