Zongo Political Coalition Condemns Extremist Death Threat in Viral Video

The Coalition of National Zongo Political Groupings has strongly condemned a death threat allegedly issued by an unidentified Ghanaian Islamic cleric in a viral social media video, describing the comments as dangerous, unacceptable and contrary to Ghana’s long‑standing culture of religious tolerance.

In the video, the cleric is reported to have urged Muslims to kill anyone who insults Prophet Muhammad — a claim the Coalition says is inconsistent with Islamic teachings and Ghana’s commitment to peaceful coexistence.

Deputy National Chairman and Policy Analyst of the Coalition, Alhassan Abdallah Musah, said the identity of the cleric had not been independently verified, but stressed that the organisation “does not support threats or violence against persons of any faith.”

“Ghana is a peace‑loving country. We do not promote religious extremism. Our strength lies in tolerance, peaceful coexistence and unity despite our religious differences,” he stated.

Mr. Musah urged Muslims to emulate the peaceful example of Prophet Muhammad and called on religious leaders, community leaders and young people to reject messages capable of inciting hatred, retaliation or violence.

He further condemned attacks on individuals because of their religious beliefs, noting that Ghanaians remain one people despite practising different faiths.

“It is one Ghana, but different faiths. We are like a tree with many branches, but we remain one tree,” he said.

The Coalition reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity within Zongo communities and mobilising citizens against intolerance, extremism and actions that threaten national cohesion.

It encouraged the public to resolve religious disagreements through respectful dialogue and lawful means, emphasising its guiding principle: “One Ghana, Different Faiths, One People.”
