Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Must Put His Foot On The Ground Moving Forward Into The 2028 Election

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ponders and re‑strategizes after the 2024 elections, one truth has become increasingly clear: the road to 2028 demands a different kind of politics and strategies, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia must lead it from the ground up.

Truly, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia remains the NPP's most marketable and enviable asset going into the future. He is smart, energetic, intellectually grounded, and possesses an intergenerational appeal that few politicians in Ghana's Fourth Republic can match.

He unquestionably connects with the youth deeply and commands respect among the political class. But appeal alone does not win elections. Organisation does. Presence does. And above all, grassroots touch does.

In fact, to win in 2028, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia must bracingly put his foot firmly on the ground.

Why this assertion?
1. The Ground Game Will Decide 2028
The 2028 election will be won at the polling stations, in the constituencies, in the markets, mosques, churches, etc. The NDC has always understood the power of the grassroots, and the NPP must not concede that space.

Additionally, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia must intensify his presence at the constituency, electoral area, and polling station levels. He must listen more, visit more, and engage directly with party grassroots or foot soldiers who felt neglected in the past.

The narrative that the base was abandoned must be corrected not with words, but with consistent action on the ground.

2. Re‑energizing the Party Base
There is a general feeling among many party patriots that the connection between the top and the bottom has weakened.

As the distinguished Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has a unique opportunity to rebuild that bridge. He must empower Constituency Executives, Electoral Area Committee members, polling station executives, and active volunteer groups who keep the party alive.

Indeed, when the base is energized, victory becomes possible. When the base is ignored, defeat becomes inevitable.

3. A Message That Resonates
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's vision for Ghana—built on a digitized, modern, and inclusive economy that creates opportunities for the youth—remains the most coherent and superior vision for the future.

However, that vision must be communicated in a language the ordinary Ghanaian understands. It must be broken down from policy documents into lived realities: jobs for the youth, support for traders, and hope for graduates.

To state emphatically, putting his foot on the ground means taking that message to every corner of the country—not as a campaign message, but as a social contract with the people.

4. The Time is Now
Under normal circumstances, 2028 may seem far, but political victories are built years in advance. The work must start now, and reconciliation, restructuring, and re‑mobilization cannot wait.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia must lead the charge by uniting all factions, embracing all who contested, and building a broad coalition for victory.

He is a leader with an intergenerational mindset, but that mindset must now be matched with intergenerational mobilization.

In summary, Ghana still needs the smart and innovative leadership that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia represents, and the NPP remains the party with the best ideas for transforming this country. But ideas must walk. Vision must move.

For 2028 to be possible and a reality, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia must put his foot on the ground today. The youth are waiting. The party is waiting. And Ghana is watching.
