Hart Adventist Hospital celebrates 10 years of growth; eyes 80-bed expansion and seven-storey medical complex

Hart Adventist Hospital has marked its 10th anniversary with a celebration of its remarkable transformation from a modest 20-bed healthcare facility into one of Kumasi's fast-growing Christian hospitals, while announcing plans for a major expansion to meet rising healthcare demands.

The anniversary celebration, held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, drew a distinguished gathering of traditional authorities, government officials, healthcare professionals, business leaders, clergy and development partners who joined the hospital in reflecting on a decade of service and impact.

Present at the event were Otumfuo Apagyahene, Oheneba Nana Owusu Afriyie IV, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, CEO of Isaac Group of Companies Elder Isaac Owusu, CEO of Peace and Love Hospital Madam Beatrice Wiafe Addai, Asokwa MCE Hon. Amoh Kamel, President of Adventist Health International and former President of Loma Linda University, USA, Dr. Richard Hart, as well as eminent clergymen from the diaspora.

The ceremony also honoured founding supporters, distinguished personalities and dedicated staff members whose contributions have shaped the hospital's success since it opened its doors in 2016.

Welcoming guests, Medical Director for the facility, Dr. Kwabena Antwi described the hospital's decade-long journey as one defined by continuous progress, innovation and compassionate care.

He noted that what began with limited logistics and a small inpatient ward has evolved into a comprehensive healthcare institution providing General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Family Medicine, Eye Care, Public Health, Ear, Nose and Throat services, and a highly patronised Dialysis Centre.

Dr. Antwi disclosed that the hospital's bed capacity has already increased from 20 to 32 and will soon rise to 72 with the addition of 40 more beds.

He added that the ongoing redevelopment of the old block will push inpatient capacity beyond 80 beds while creating more space for surgical and specialised medical services.

Looking to the future, he revealed plans to construct a modern seven-storey building with a basement to house a full range of specialist services expected of a secondary healthcare facility.

Chairman for the occasion, Elder Isaac Owusu, paid tribute to former South-Central Ghana Conference President, Pastor Dr. Kwabena Annor Boafo, crediting him with the vision that gave birth to the hospital.

He described the late church leader as a visionary who believed access to quality healthcare should be available to everyone, regardless of social status, and praised Dr. Richard Hart for providing the support that helped transform the vision into reality.

Addressing the gathering, Special Guest of Honour Oheneba Nana Owusu Afriyie IV commended the hospital for earning the trust of both patients and healthcare providers, pointing to the growing number of referrals to its Dialysis Centre as evidence of its excellent reputation.

He encouraged management and staff to remain committed to compassionate and quality healthcare delivery.

The Ahinsan Queen Mother also applauded the institution for bringing honour to the community and urged its leadership to continue building on the gains achieved over the past decade.

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene described Hart Adventist Hospital as a shining example of how faith-based institutions continue to complement government's efforts in delivering quality healthcare.

He said the hospital's success demonstrates that healthcare is "not simply a profession but a calling," requiring competence, empathy, humility and selfless service.

The Minister further praised the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its enduring contribution to healthcare, education and national development, assuring that government looks forward to strengthening its partnership with the church in expanding access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
