Ghana Water blames nationwide power outage for supply disruptions, apologises to customers

Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has apologised to customers following widespread interruptions in water supply caused by the nationwide power outage linked to a disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System.

The company said the electricity disruptions in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, have affected the operations of several of its water treatment plants and pumping stations, preventing the production and distribution of potable water in many parts of the country.

In a press release issued on the same day, GWL assured customers that normal operations would resume once stable electricity supply is restored.

"As a result of the power supply interruptions, most of GWL's water production systems, which rely on electricity supplied through the national grid, are not operational. Consequently, the Company is currently unable to produce and distribute potable water to customers in the affected areas," the statement read in part.

The company described the situation as beyond its control and apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused.

GWL said its technical teams had been placed on standby to immediately restart production and distribution once power is fully restored.

"Ghana Water Ltd wishes to assure the public that our technical teams are on standby and will immediately resume production and distribution as soon as stable electricity supply is restored," it noted.

The company added that it is working closely with the relevant institutions in the power sector and is closely monitoring developments to ensure normal water supply resumes at the earliest possible time.

GWL further expressed appreciation to customers for their patience, understanding and cooperation, promising to provide further updates as the situation evolves.
