Why cheapen yourselves to be taken for fools, fellow Ghanaians?

The way politics is done in Ghana has exposed the amenability of most Ghanaians to their own detriment. They are easily baited by the sugar-coated lies thrown at them by the political parties and their respective aspirants vying for various posts.

The writer cannot get his head around how on earth most Ghanaians did believe for real the NDC campaign policy of introduction and offer on “Nkoko Nketenkete” to all Ghanaians. How could that be possible even if it was feasible?

The few discerning Ghanaians knew the policy was bound to fail as it was not a viable economic policy, but a deceitful campaign policy intended to cloud the thinking of the polarised and partisan Ghanaians who are unfortunately not politically savvy.

Then presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama and his NDC campaigned on many false promises among which was the promise to dig a borehole in every acre or so of a cocoa farmer’s farm to enable them to water their crops all year round to be able to harvest cocoa beans all year round.

What about the electrification of their cocoa farms to enable them work on the farms both day and night, in fulfilment of their promised 24-hour economy? They did promise that to woo the hearts, minds, souls, and votes of our mostly illiterate cocoa farmers. Wow!

Is it not only people that cheapen themselves that will readily believe and accept such spurious campaign promises for real?

Even the NDC flagship 24-Hour Economy policy cannot be realised by any government policy in the way that they made people believe.

The nature and peculiarity of businesses determine whether they can be operated around the clock in what may be 24 hours 7 days a week service but not by any government policy as it is falsely sold to Ghanaians and taken by them hook, line and sinker.

The daily durational operation of any business depends on the demand for its goods or services. For example, you can run a 24-hour public transport service on the Kumasi-Accra Road where there are passengers all the time but cannot do the same on the Kumasi-Kumawu Road where there are no passengers after 7 pm every day.

Does the writer have to blame the politicians for the way they continually deceive the citizens? Yes and no.

The writer will partly blame the politicians for not being honest with Ghanaians. However, he will blame the citizens more for believing in the utterly obvious lies that go to prove how cheap and probably low thinking they are hence always taken for fools.

Is it tribalism, kinsmanship, or partisanship that makes most Ghanaians side with some politicians and their promises when clearly, they could be seen to play on the intelligence of the people?

Unless Ghanaians begin to critically analyse the campaign promises by the politicians, they will forever be seen as, or taken for, big fools.

After the President John Dramani Mahama NDC government invested a whopping sum of Ghc338 million in the “Nkoko Nketenkete” project, the Agriculture Minister has declared the project failed hence abandoned. What a waste of the scarce national resource, part of which may surely have found its way into some dirty pockets of some politicians, their agents, and assigns.

My people, let us cease cheapening ourselves to avoid being taken for fools by the politicians. Let us reason and behave as human beings endowed with a level of intelligence.

Why are you that cheap fellow Ghanaian if I may ask? Don’t let tribal affiliation and hatred or partisan politics make you a fool or choose to be.

Willingly choosing “Nkoko Nketenkete” project over a free Senior High School education for your children? The writer cannot believe his eyes!
