MTN Ghana warns dealers against selling SIM cards above approved GH¢10 price

MTN Ghana has issued a strong warning to vendors selling its SIM cards above the approved GH¢10 price, cautioning that any authorized dealer found flouting the company's pricing regulations risks losing their accreditation.

The caution was given by the General Manager for MTN Ghana's Northern Business District, Nii Adotey Mingle, during the MTN Media and Stakeholders Forum in Kumasi.

Mr. Mingle appealed to the public to report any vendor charging more than the approved price, stressing that the company remains committed to protecting customers from exploitation and ensuring compliance across its distribution network.

He also cautioned customers against the growing threat of digital fraud, urging subscribers never to disclose their PINs, passwords or other confidential information to unknown persons.

According to him, customers should verify suspicious calls, messages or requests through official MTN channels before responding, adding that vigilance remains the strongest defense against online scams.

He further advised subscribers not to click on suspicious links received through WhatsApp, SMS or unfamiliar websites, noting that fraudsters continue to employ sophisticated methods to deceive unsuspecting customers.

The forum also highlighted MTN Ghana's renewed commitment to Ghana's digital transformation through a US$1.1 billion investment over the next three years to strengthen network infrastructure, improve connectivity and accelerate digital innovation nationwide.

The investment, announced as the telecommunications company celebrates its 30th anniversary, will support network modernization, fibre expansion and the construction of at least 500 new network sites by the end of 2026.

Speaking at the event, MTN Ghana's Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Angela Mensah-Poku, said the company's three-decade journey has been closely linked to Ghana's digital revolution.

She praised the media, particularly journalists in the Ashanti Region, for their support in promoting the company's activities and strengthening transparency and accountability.

Mrs. Mensah-Poku explained that MTN has evolved from a traditional telecommunications operator into a technology company providing digital, enterprise and financial solutions that continue to transform businesses and improve lives.

She said future investments would focus on advanced technologies, stronger fibre infrastructure and digital platforms to drive innovation, productivity and economic growth.

She also identified sustainability as a key pillar of the company's long-term strategy, revealing that MTN is investing in renewable energy solutions and resilient infrastructure to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

According to her, MTN remains committed to promoting financial inclusion, equipping young people with digital skills, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and expanding access to essential services through technology.

She added that the company continues to contribute significantly to national development through tax payments, employment creation, infrastructure investments and impactful initiatives by the MTN Ghana Foundation in education, health, skills development and economic empowerment.

Mrs. Mensah-Poku also highlighted the success of MTN's Mobile Money (MoMo) platform, describing it as a key driver of financial inclusion for millions of individuals and businesses across Ghana.

MTN Ghana recorded a strong financial performance in 2025, posting a 36.1 percent increase in total revenue and a 55.9 percent rise in profit after tax, driven by sustained growth in data, voice, digital services and mobile money.

As the company marks 30 years of operations under the theme "30 Years of Progress, Powered by You," it says it remains focused on innovation, customer satisfaction and sustainable investments that will help shape Ghana's digital future.
