Equalisation Bid Flops Flat

In the face of a foiled orchestration of an equalisation bid occasioned by the arrest of a National Democratic Congress (NDC) Agona West Organiser for his hate speech against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's propaganda have hopped to another straw.

Devastatingly crestfallen by the former Vice President's directive that the suspect be released since he does not believe in trampling free speech, as the current administration is doing through arrest of TikTokers and jailing them, some of them women with babies just five years old.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the most insulted and vilified politician by NDC- leadership sponsored activists, does not want to be a pawn in this clandestine political chess game being spawned by the ruling political grouping.

Not being a complainant in the self-created case, he was poignant in his stop-the-prosecution directive, his words in the release straight and unambiguous under the circumstances.

We find it curious, intriguing but unsurprising that today the Ghana Police Service regards hate speeches against the former Vice President as threat to public peace. This is rich. Where were they when Said Sinare and his sisters, and before them Basintale, claimed to have seen Dr. Bawumia drinking Whiskey and eating pork – lies intended to impact on the integrity of the former Vice President in the eyes of right thinking Muslims.

They have been rewarded with juicy appointments, but God moves in mysterious ways and would exact punishment on those who lie about others. What if his supporters had demanded proof of the claims and forcefully so by hitting the streets? Dr. Bawumia as Chairman of the Police Council did not pull a hair off any of his lying accusers' heads.

To be fair to the law enforcement department, they could be doing the bidding of the politicians at the helm. Doing the bidding of the politicians comes with lots of goodies, including extension of contracts even when the President banned this.

The NDC activists, working in tandem with the party leadership, are seeking to create the impression that Dr. Bawumia did not do anything to stop the arrest of persons behind hate speeches when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in charge of running the country.

We cannot think of any such arrests when even the worse of such hate speeches, including the open prayer that God kill then President Akufo-Addo was uttered during the tenure of the NPP.

So bad were such hate speeches that a small boy had cause to ask President Akufo-Addo about how he felt when such remarks were hurled at him. His response was that it was better to tolerate such speeches as opposed to the contrary.

The NDC hypocrites with their bloodied noses are saying that the arrest and conviction of NPP activists is about the Republic vs the accused in which government has no hand in. Palpable balderdash.

When the late former President John Evans Atta Mills was at the helm, he reacted similarly when he ordered the release of a man who said uncharitable words against him, order which was obeyed.

Dr. Bawumia's words are etched on marble: “the answer to offensive speech is better speech, and the answer to falsehood is truth, not handcuffs, courtrooms and crushing bail conditions.”

Let them revise their propaganda notes, this one has flopped glaringly.
