Morocco and Ghana Foreign Ministers discuss bolstering economic, investment cooperation

Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on Tuesday, July 21, held bilateral talks with Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on the sidelines of the second session of the Ghana-Morocco Joint Cooperation Committee, which they co-chaired.

During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed the progress made in bilateral relations since the official visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Ghana in February 2017 and expressed satisfaction with the gains achieved in cooperation between the two countries.

They also welcomed the growing presence of Moroccan businesses in Ghana, particularly in the banking, housing and infrastructure sectors, while encouraging increased Ghanaian investment in Morocco. Both ministers underscored the need to strengthen reciprocal investment flows and expand public-private partnerships, especially in emerging sectors such as green energy, logistics and the digital economy.

Reaffirming their commitment to deepening collaboration in areas of mutual interest, the ministers agreed to broaden cooperation into additional sectors, including industry, hydrocarbons, mining, energy efficiency, customs administration, postal services and agriculture.

On trade, Mr Bourita and Mr Ablakwa acknowledged the untapped commercial potential between Ghana and Morocco and agreed to promote economic missions, business-to-business (B2B) engagements, trade fairs and exhibitions to boost bilateral trade and improve the trade balance between the two countries.

To further strengthen economic ties, the two ministers also agreed to facilitate the periodic organisation of a private sector-led Ghana-Morocco Economic and Investment Forum, to be hosted alternately by the two countries.
