Effia MP Demands Full Accountability at EKMA — Says Every Cedi Must Show Results

Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah, has delivered a stinging call for tighter financial discipline at the Effia‑Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), warning that public funds are being overspent without matching results.

Speaking at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Assembly, Mr Boamah said the Assembly must demonstrate probity, accountability and transparency in every transaction, stressing that every cedi must produce visible improvements in the municipality.

He revealed that his review of EKMA’s Composite Budget as of May showed expenditure overruns in multiple areas, raising serious questions about the approval processes behind them.

He singled out sanitation spending as a red flag:

“When you juxtapose the value of work done with the resources expended — for example, sanitation spending in excess of GHC2.8 million — the efficiency must be interrogated.”

The MP urged the Assembly to strengthen accountability systems, insisting that value‑for‑money must guide all project execution. “Transparency builds trust, and trust is essential for effective local governance,” he said.

The meeting also allowed Assembly Members to deliberate on the revised 2026 Annual Action Plan, the revised 2026 Composite Budget, and other development priorities.

Mr Boamah reaffirmed his commitment to supporting EKMA and working with traditional authorities and stakeholders to accelerate development in the municipality.
